My Bookshelf

My bookshelf continues to expand. Over a hundred books live on it and counting. Every new book that I add requires no dusting or alphabetizing or shifting sections to make more room. My bookshelf is low maintenance because it’s digital.

I check out eBooks from the library’s website and with eBook priced less than paperbacks, I purchase some, too. Buying eBooks is a two step process. First, I download the samples of eBooks I consider buying. I only purchase books that I hope to reread and reference. When I buy an eBook, it’s like I give it a “KEEP” status as I used to do with paperbacks on my old wooden bookshelves rather than delivering the “GIVE AWAY” title to the used bookstore for others to enjoy.

After I embraced eBooks, I needed a way to keep track of the digital books I sought, started, finished, or abandoned. I maintain my digital bookshelf on Goodreads. While there are some things I don’t like about that site since Amazon bought it, I like the features enough for now to stick around. I’m open to suggestions of other book review websites. I don’t buy paperbacks anymore unless it’s an older title that I stalked and plan to endure the magnification/scanning it will require to read it. Or, it’s a library cookbook that my terrier tried to steal away by lifting it from the table with his teeth and I bought it the following week at the Circulation Desk. Love him.
